May 22nd - Long one with LOTS of info
New Moon Party and Midnight Showing
The New Moon movie is in full production (the cast and crew are actually in Italy filming as we speak). That being said, it is time for Channy and I to start planning the New Moon party!
Because the Twilight party was such a huge success, we would like to double the amount of guests for New Moon. We are looking at about 100 guests. Before we reserve a room to accommodate 100 fans, we need to make sure we can fill it. To sweeten the deal, we have also reserved an entire theater for the midnight showing. Yes, that is right, we got our own theater. No more worries about getting a ticket with a decent seat. We have you covered.
Below are some of the details we have so far on the party and movie. I would very much appreciate receiving a head count from all of those who would like to come to the party and the movie. You do not have to come to both.
New Moon Party Details
Date: Thursday, November 19th
Time: TBD
Location: TBD
Cost: $20.00 (this is just for the party, dinner will be served)
Money due by November 1st, 2009
New Moon Movie Details
Date: Thursday, November 19th
Time: between 11:00-11:30 pm, show will begin at 12:00 am
Location: The District in South Jordan
Cost: $10.00
Money due by November 1st, 2009
If you could provide me the following information, it would be MUCH appreciated.
Example:
Your name: Bella Swan
Coming to party: yes
Coming to movie: yes
If you are interested in coming to this party and/or the movie (and who wouldn't be), please send me an email so I can get you on the list! ericafitton@comcast.net
New Moon News
EW.com has a peek at their upcoming issue, where they get an on-set peek at New Moon with exclusive photos and interviews:
“Of course it’s different,” says Kristen Stewart. Okay, maybe it was silly to ask if things had changed since she filmed Twilight a year ago. New Moon, the second movie adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novels, is shooting in Vancouver, Canada, instead of Oregon; fans are now showing up in droves; and director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) has taken the reins. In the movie, Bella (Stewart) has been abandoned by her vampire love, Edward (Robert Pattinson), but she hears his voice in her thoughts, even as she finds herself drawn to her friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner). “When you get broken up with, it really is the worst thing in the world,” says Weitz. “Meyer gives a kind of supernatural context to people’s real feelings, which sums up what we all go through.”
Happy birthday, Bella! In this EW exclusive photo, the movie’s newly 18-year-old heroine has been thrown against a rose-covered table by her beloved, Edward. Readers will know his intentions were honorable: He was trying to protect Bella (and her paper cut!) from the vampire Jasper. “The whole cast is reading the book and wanting to get it right,” says Weitz (center, with Stewart, assistant director Mike Topoozian, and makeup artist Robin Mathews). “They want to deliver on the promise these books make to the readers.”
One of director Weitz’s creative challenges is Edward’s long absence in the novel: “Rob was the first guy to say to me, ‘You know, you don’t really need to have too much of me in this film.’ I don’t want him too present, so his apparition will be a subtle, flitting effect — clearly a reflection of Bella’s will and desire to see him.”
“I’m telling Bella not to be fearful of death. It’s inevitable and painless,” says Edi Gathegi, who returns in New Moon as the somewhat mysterious vampire Laurent, in this EW exclusive photo. “He was bad in Twilight, but still had some compassion. Let’s just say he’s not conflicted anymore.”

New Moon Clip will debut on MTV - May 31st
Get ready for some New Moon. And nope, we're not talking about a new set of paparazzi pics of Robert Pattinson & Co.
I can exclusively reveal that footage from the Twilight sequel will be shown for the first time during the upcoming MTV Movie Awards.
And that's not all, it gets better...
Awards-show producer Mark Burnett says Pattz, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will hit the stage together to present the clip.
An action-packed, minutelong clip from Twilight showing Edward battling bad-boy bloodsucker James (Cam Gigandet) made its debut at last year's awards. It was also the first time Pattinson and Stewart walked the red carpet together in support of the movie.
"Fans can tune in to the show to see sneak peeks from three of the most highly anticipated movies of the year," Burnett tells me. "These clips have never been seen before, and we're very excited that The Twilight Saga: New Moon is one of them."
Twilight and Slumdog Millionaire lead in nominations, with each receiving six nods.
Volterra Fountain Under Construction
Seemingly Montepulciano and Volterra are among the few towns in Italy without a fountain in the town square. No fear, the book and script call for a fountain, and a fountain is currently being built!

NEW MOON NEWS
Pictures from the set of New MoonDeadbolt: Interview with Werewolves
Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga has introduced a deep historical layer of Native American history into her popular series of Twilight novels by delicately mixing fact and fiction. Native American lore has long been a source of interest for anthropologists and historians who have dedicated scores of books to the stories of different tribes that include everything from creation stories to the changes in weather and placement of the sun and moon. Twilight brought parts of the La Push legends of the Quileute tribe to a mass audience. La Push itself is a real location and the home of the Quileute tribe in northern Washington State. The characters of Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, and his father Billy are members of the tribe as well as a much bigger secret that has been well hidden for years. In the Twilight sequel New Moon, Stephanie Meyer allows her characters to tell their own stories concerning the legends, especially Jacob since he is an integral focal point in Meyer’s layers of Native American history. The Vulnerable Warriors
[Twilght New Moon] Although werewolves have long been looked at as villainous monsters , Meyer’s Twilight Saga exposes the emotional vulnerability of the creatures. Since the Twilight novels are deeply romantic in nature, what works so effectively for the Saga and New Moon is that the fear and intimidation associated with its “monsters” gets stripped away to large degree by pitting vampire against a werewolf for the love of a girl. And making Bella Swan human is all the more appealing since it taps into the timeless classical elements of the “forbidden” love story.
Twilight actors Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner already bring their striking physical appeal and charismatic charm to the Twilight films. Although Pattinson joined New Moon in relatively the same shape as Twilight, Lautner had more to prove for New Moon since he worked tirelessly to add 30 pounds of muscle to his frame in order to meet the physical requirements that Jacob Black endures in New Moon. Interestingly, both Jacob and Edward are not the typical, bloodthirsty monsters that they could have been portrayed as in similar stories. Instead they both fight their true non-human natures, rebelling against them with Bella’s help. Edward is eternally beautiful and elegant but deadly. Jacob is strikingly handsome but vicious. Their conflict is much more internal than solely overtly physical, which adds involving and relatable layers to the Twilight Saga.

Possible New Moon Trailer Viewing
The rumor that the New Moon trailer will make its debut attached to the Summit produced, Vanessa Hudgens flick, Bandslam is still making its rounds. When we checked it out, Summit basically said there are no guarantees on that. It’s still way to early to say that for sure.
However it brings up an interesting question. In this article on OnTheFlix, they talk about how a movie like Bandslam could be helped in its ratings by people going to see the movie simply because they want to see the trailer on the big screen.
“They have targeted “Bandslam” because it’s audience will most likely be the same demographics that “New Moon” will have for the most part. Also Summit Entertainment is the movie studio for the “Twilight Saga” films and “Bandslam” so there’s another correlation for you. Basically Summit Entertainment wants to help promote it’s less high profile movie with it’s more high profile movie with the correct demographics so they can in turn make more money on both fronts.”
Now we definitely agree that it makes sense for a movie like Bandslam to have the trailer on it. If you are going for a young teen demographic as a part of your marketing, it’s pretty much a no-brainer. So, it certainly doesn’t hurt Bandslam or New Moon in any way.
On the other hand, do people (in particular women) go to movies these days just to see the trailer of an upcoming film, or do you wait to see it online? Do they do it if it’s a movie they have no desire to see otherwise? Last year at this time the rumors were circulating that the Twilight trailer would be shown in from of Speed Racer (the reality was it was pot luck, some places it was attached some places it wasn’t but you didn’t know that before buying your ticket), and if Speed Racer’s sales totals are any indication it doesn’t look like Twilight gave it any kind of boost.
Stephenie Meyer wins author of the year
Stephenie Meyer won the Author of the Year Award last night in the teen category for her novel Breaking Dawn. According to Mediabistro:
“The winners were chosen in six categories, broken down by age groups–220,000 online votes were cast by children around the country. The awards ceremony celebrated the 90th observance of Children’s Book Week, which lasts from May 11-17, 2009.”
Other honorees included Whoopi Goldberg who was recognized for her efforts to improve childhood literacy.

May 10th - Happy Mother's Day
E online confirmed with Summit Entertainment "Did You" by Kelly Clarkson will NOT be used on New Moon.
Kelly Clarkson may have a thing for Edward Cullen, but that certainly doesn’t guarantee her a spot on the New Moon soundtrack.
Recent Internet chatter claims that the unreleased Clarkson song “Did You?” will likely be featured in the Twilight sequel.
However, a rep for movie studio Summit Entertainment is singing a different tune…
There are no plans to use the song, according to the rep.
The angst-ridden, rocked-out ballad certainly sounds like a good match for the flick. “Did you ever care for me?” Clarkson sings in the chorus. “Did you ever believe in me?/Did you ever love me?”
A source tells me that director Chris Weitz has made no decisions regarding the music for the movie. Currently filming in Vancouver before taking off for Italy, New Moon is set to hit theaters on Nov. 20.

Director of Eclipse - this news is a little late
Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.
Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.”
Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.”
Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006’s engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007’s genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.
In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
