Have you wondered how many mistakes were made in Twilight? Check out this picture of Rob. I think he looks good with shorter hair. I mean it is no Edward, but it will grow back............right? I think he looks a little like Justin Timberlake.

Michael Copon Comments: Why he could be Jacob Black
JUSTJAREDJR.COM - Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner.
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black! Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.

On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.

On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.

On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

Movie Sales as of 12/21/08
Total US Gross $158,460,899
International Gross $50,200,000
Worldwide Gross $208,660,899

James Bond has made $161,300,000 in US sales. Twilight is less than $3,000,000 million dollars behind. Wahoo!! For the movie to be out 4 weeks and make over $200 million dollars I think is really cool. I just cannot wait until the DVD and even more, New Moon.

News from Stephenie

Hey guys,

There's been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what's going on.

First of all, like you, I'm sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I'm going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I'm looking forward to every movie she does in the future.

And she didn't leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon.

Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They've asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)
I'm excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.

There is a letter from Christ on Stephenie's website. Click here to read it.

Not too bad. Hopefully he keeps true to his letter.

CHRIS WEITZ OFFICIAL NEW MOON DIRECTOR!
This just in from Entertainment Weekly, although we have no official confirmation from Summit, EW doesn’t stick their necks out like this unless they have something truly viable.
Sources tell Entertainment Weekly that Summit Entertainment is about to hire Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) as the shepherd for New Moon, the second installment of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling Twilight series.

Weitz is best-known for his work with his brother Paul. The two directed and produced American Pie and then were nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for About a Boy, which they also co-directed. Chris’ first solo directing gig, The Golden Compass, didn’t do well stateside but was a hit internationally.

Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, has grossed more than $141 million so far, but Hardwicke had clashed with the studio during production. It was announced early this week that she would not be making New Moon. Weitz has a solid relationship with Summit’s top brass; he’s considered easy to work with and has experience with special effects. "He’s the quality-of-life-choice," says one source. While Summit insists "we have not yet signed Chris Weitz to do New Moon," and Weitz’s agency says no deal has been signed, other sources say the deal is imminent, and that Summit has stopped negotiations with other potential Moon directors. Summit had planned to announce this hiring decision on Sunday, Dec. 14, and could have Weitz in Vancouver, B.C. as early as Monday to start pre-production on the film.

Now that the Director has been chosen, let the casting begin. Check out this article from EW.

NEW MOON MOVIE DETAILS
Entertainment Weekly - New details on New Moon and the possibility that Taylor won’t be back as Jacob. Read about it below:

Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel, which means any director who signs on to replace Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has to be in Vancouver by Dec. 15 to begin 12 weeks of preproduction before a mid-March start date. Reports have speculated that Hardwicke was fired for being difficult on set, but sources close to her suggest Summit’s aggressive production schedule turned her off. “She’d love to do the sequel if she could do it better than Twilight,” says one. “It became clear that Summit didn’t have those same priorities.”

Indeed, at press time the second movie appeared to have little more than a rough first-draft working script. As Summit’s production president Erik Feig told EW during Twilight’s record-busting first weekend, “There is that first…script. All the finesse that turns a screenplay into a movie hasn’t happened yet.” Two weeks later, Summit is saying it’s happy with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s progress.

Another of Hardwicke’s primary concerns was that hunky vampire Edward remains MIA throughout New Moon’s middle portion. In her own opening-weekend interview, she told EW, “You have to get the chemistry as strong between Jacob and Bella as it was between Bella and Edward. You also have to do something with that arc: She’s in love with somebody, he disappears, she falls in love with someone else, and the first guy comes back. Movies like Pearl Harbor have tried it. It absolutely didn’t work.”

With or without Hardwicke, Summit faces other snags. Two sources tell EW the studio doesn’t want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner (pictured) as Jacob, though Lautner’s agent has apparently reached out to the imaging company behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in an attempt to demonstrate to Summit how a digitally bulked-up Lautner could work. (Summit says it won’t make a decision until a new filmmaker is on board.) There’s also the matter of finding a cast of Native American actors to play Jacob’s werewolf clan — a difficult challenge Hardwicke was also faced with before settling on Lautner, who isn’t completely Native American. And with a slightly increased budget of $50 million — much of which is assumed will go to leads asking for heftier paydays, location shoots in Italy, and ramped-up F/X — Summit will have to scrimp somewhere.

POTIENTIAL NEW MOON DIRECTOR
Two sources (Perez Hilton and Nikke Finke) are claiming Chris Weitz has been offered the position of directing New Moon. At this point, it’s not confirmed by Summit.
From Perez:

The makers of Twilight, Summit Entertainment, has reportedly offered the sequel director job to Chris Weitz. In addition to directing About a Boy, Weitz was also one of the producers of American Pie.

Hollywood insiders say Weitz scored the big job because he’s super good friends with Summit’s president of production, Eric Feig.

It’s nice to have friends in high places!

Summit also reportedly liked the job he did directing The Golden Compass, that Nicole Kidman film no one saw.

From Nikki Finke:

Yes, he’s had tremendous success working with tweens and teens (About A Boy as director and writer, American Pie as producer and uncredited director). But Chris Weitz also did The Golden Compass (as writer and director), and my source says Summit Entertainment liked the look of that even if it didn’t heat up the domestic box office (but did better overseas). I don’t have official confirmation yet that this Twilight sequel offer has gone out to Weitz. But my insider says another reason it came down is because Weitz and Summit’s president of production Eric Feig are longtime pals. The source tells me Weitz is “still considering” the offer to helm New Moon and possibly also Eclipse if the sequel and threequel movie adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s series of vampire books are made back-to-back. This info follows my news that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is off the film franchise.

Late Breaking Article from EW confirming what had been rumored by various sources earlier, that an offer has gone out to Chris Weitz of The Golden Compass and Oscar Nominee for About a Boy fame. There is no info on whether that offer has been accepted. Also under discussion is how Taylor Lautner can fit in given the state of graphic technology seen in such movies like Benjamin Button where Brad Pitt ages and then youthens before our eyes.

SUMMIT BEGINS SEARCH FOR NEW MOON DIRECTOR
Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted TWILIGHT film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for NEW MOON.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct NEW MOON,” said Hardwicke. “Directing TWILIGHT has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story."

“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the TWILIGHT franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

The Normal Mormon Husbands are back. This time they have their own ideas on New Moon casting, or should we say recasting. They also have a quiz where you can voice your opinion on their recasting choices. This guy is so funny.

Twilight DVD
This information is coming from the Twilight Lexicon Blog, so nothing official, but these gals know their stuff. I will keep you posted when the release date actually comes out.

Also, for those of you who are dying to have the DVD, this is just in from Naomi who stumbled on Twilight info at her local video store.
I was at my local mall today, scouting out new Twilight merchandise, when I decided to check out FYE. I went straight to the posters that were displayed and there, taped to the display, was a sign that read "PREORDER TWILIGHT TODAY! COMING IN 2009." I literally ran up to the counter and asked the lady to fill me in. She told me that I could pre-order it by putting $5 down on the dvd, and when it came in, they’d call. I asked when it was coming in and she replied around Valentine’s Day (February 14th). Also (and I don’t know if this is just at my local FYE or at others too), the woman told me that she was having a contest to
win a special Twilight prize. To win, all you have to do is pre-order the DVD. Oh, and they have 2 different versions of the DVD coming out: a regular (estimated at $19.99) and a special edition (estimated at $22.99).

Site of the month
After much thought I have decided to make Twilightmoms.com the site of the month for December. Let me explain why I was not a fan for awhile.

Back in May, Channy and I were sitting out for The Host book signing. We had spent a cold night out in front of Borders to get the tickets and were now sitting in the baking sun waiting in line for the event. Well a couple of "girls" thought they would butt in line and lied about it. I was having none of that and went to told the ladies they had to move. Needless to say security was called and the "girls" had to move back in line.

How does this tie in with Twilight Mom's, well, these "girls" claimed to be Twilight moms. Looking back I don't think they were, but I didn't know. The real Twilight Mom's are wonderful helpful people.

I felt I needed to give Twilight Mom's the site of the month because they did such a wonderful job on the Twilight Premiere. I know how much work it was for the party we had, I can only imagine what time and effort was put forth for theirs. Congrats to Twilight Mom's.
