New Moon News
Chris Weitz took a recent trip to Kalama High School in Oregon to see if it might be used for New Moon. Kalama was used for several Twilight scenes such as the parking lot crash, the volleyball game, and their weight room was transformed into Bella’s hospital room.

KALAMA — Film crews could return to Kalama High School this spring to shoot footage for a sequel to the hit teen-vampire flick “Twilight.”

Several producers and director Chris Weitz — who didn’t direct the original “Twilight” — visited the school last week, said Kalama Superintendent Jim Sutton. The sequel is called “New Moon,” the title of the second of four novels in the popular series by author Stephenie Meyer.

“The whole point of the trip was to show Chris Weitz all the locations they used up here in the Northwest,” Sutton said.

The visit was short, and movie makers didn’t commit to filming at the school again, Sutton said. It’s possible they shot enough footage during the filming of “Twilight” last spring to supply the sequel, he noted.

If additional footage is requested, “they would need to start shooting at the end of March or early April,” Sutton said.

That time frame sounds workable, Sutton said, but requires approval by the Kalama School Board before they get the green-light.

Film crews last visited Kalama High School in late March to film “Twilight,” which turned into a box office hit, generating $70 million in its opening weekend alone. The original books are based in Forks, Wash.

Sutton said Kalama residents were pleased to see their school on the big screen.

“Twilight” also gave a slight boost to the Kalama economy. The school district received a $29,500 check from the production company for facility use, plus a donation to the student body. Port of Kalama received $2,000 to allow film crews to park their cars on port property five days.

Did you read that, filming would be done in late March or early April. Holy cow, this is just getting better and better.

Who is going to play Jane?
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Will Dakota Fanning
play a pint-sized vampire in the "Twilight" sequel, “New Moon?” She’s crossing her fingers.

“I think it’s too soon to tell if I’ll for sure be doing it, but it’s so great,” she told Access
Hollywood on Saturday at the junket for her latest film, “Push.” “I’m a really big fan of that series and the first film and all the actors in it, so it would be wonderful.”

E! Online's Marc Malkin reported on Thursday that Dakota was currently negotiating for the role of Jane, a member of the deadly Volturi vampires from Italy, where much of “New Moon” takes place.

Following Malkin’s report, a rep for Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access there had been talks with the actress.

“We are considering all actors that have the unique requirements for the look of Jane — Dakota being one of them,” a rep for Summit told Access.

If she does get the part, Dakota said she won’t have to spend too much time in the makeup chair.

“I don’t think they’ll have to put a lot of makeup on me,” she joked. “I’m pretty white already.”

And the 14-year-old actress added that doing the film would give her a boost with her “Twilighter” pals.

“Pretty much all my friends are pretty big fans, so it would be great,” she said.

Twilight Candy
New England Confectionery Co.’s Sweethearts Conversation Hearts are going from “I Love You” and “Marry Me” to “Bite Me.”

The Revere candy company wants to make the 143-year-old line more relevant to teens and tweens with a tie-in to the popular “Twilight” film based on the best-selling vampire romance novels.

NECCO will release softer, sparkling versions of the pastel sugar hearts in March, when the film is released on DVD. The printed messages will include “Bite Me,” “Secret” and “Soul Mate,” and flavors such as “orange obsession” and “tempting apple.” More Sweethearts will hit stores for the November release of the “New Moon” sequel.

Sweethearts are billed as the best-selling Valentine’s candy, with more than 8 billion produced annually in Revere. NECCO yesterday unveiled its 10 new Valentine’s Day messages, which have a “Menu of Love” theme.

And the 70-year-old Sky Bar will jump on the “Twilight” bandwagon with custom-molded shapes tied to the characters’ crests.

“We have a great opportunity in this business,” Krause said. “We have some really iconic brands. We’ve done a lot of research, and our consumers want us to take these brands into new directions.”

Stephenie Meyer Update
I really liked both of these articles that came out yesterday in the USA Today:

Sellers basked in Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight' in 2008
New star authors made, old ones rediscovered in 2008

I love stats like those. And while I'm posting I thought I would add that tonight (Thursday) the band Mutemath (contributor to the Twilight soundtrack) is going to be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno doing a live performance of "Spotlight." Just FYI.

January 7 Happy New Year

I am very sorry for the lack of post. The New Year has not slowed for me one bit. Anyway, some very exciting news. Taylor Lautner WILL be playing Jacob Black.

New Moon News
Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

very best
Chris Weitz

I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

Casting Call for New Moon
QuileuteTribe
Sam Uley, Jared & Paul, Embry Call, Quil Ateara, Emily and Harry Clearwater (I thought they already had a Sam?)

Italy Vampires
Marcus & Caius, Felix, Demetri, Jane, Alec, Heidi (Where is Aro? Maybe he has already been cast?)

Who should play Leah Clearwater?
There have been rumors galore when it comes to the casting of the heavily anticipated “New Moon” – the next installment of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling “Twilight” saga. We all know about the drama revolving around the casting of hunky werewolf Jacob Black. Will Taylor Lautner bulk up enough to keep the role of the lovable “shape-shifter” or will the bigger and older Michael Copon take the cake? Oh the intrigue!

While Twilighters are still debating about which actor they want to play New Moon’s Jacob, there’s new casting drama that has thrown the passionate fans of the mega
blockbuster into a tizzy. For the past month, rumors have been circulating that two Disney Channel stars are in contention for the role of Leah Clearwater. Leah is Jacob’s fiesty and heartbroken frienemy, who…umm… also happens to be a werewolf!

Who are the hopefuls? The girl who’s made boys go gaga in all three High School Musicals (HSM) is rumored to be one of the top two contenders. Who’s the other hopeful? The super-cute and super-funny Brenda Song! You might know her as the spoiled and not so very smart London Tipton alongside Ashley Tisdale in Disney’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”

Brenda Song and Vanessa Hudgens? I know this is suppose to be a teen show, but come on. Don't you think Zac will be freaking out with Edward as the competition? Just when you think Disney can't get their hands on anything else, now it is Twilight! I guess we know where they will get Embry, Quil and Jared...............the Jonas Brothers. (don't get me wrong, I love Disney)
