New Moon News
Chris Weitz took a recent trip to Kalama High School in Oregon to see if it might be used for New Moon. Kalama was used for several Twilight scenes such as the parking lot crash, the volleyball game, and their weight room was transformed into Bella’s hospital room.
KALAMA — Film crews could return to Kalama High School this spring to shoot footage for a sequel to the hit teen-vampire flick “Twilight.”
Several producers and director Chris Weitz — who didn’t direct the original “Twilight” — visited the school last week, said Kalama Superintendent Jim Sutton. The sequel is called “New Moon,” the title of the second of four novels in the popular series by author Stephenie Meyer.
“The whole point of the trip was to show Chris Weitz all the locations they used up here in the Northwest,” Sutton said.
The visit was short, and movie makers didn’t commit to filming at the school again, Sutton said. It’s possible they shot enough footage during the filming of “Twilight” last spring to supply the sequel, he noted.
If additional footage is requested, “they would need to start shooting at the end of March or early April,” Sutton said.
That time frame sounds workable, Sutton said, but requires approval by the Kalama School Board before they get the green-light.
Film crews last visited Kalama High School in late March to film “Twilight,” which turned into a box office hit, generating $70 million in its opening weekend alone. The original books are based in Forks, Wash.
Sutton said Kalama residents were pleased to see their school on the big screen.
“Twilight” also gave a slight boost to the Kalama economy. The school district received a $29,500 check from the production company for facility use, plus a donation to the student body. Port of Kalama received $2,000 to allow film crews to park their cars on port property five days.
Did you read that, filming would be done in late March or early April. Holy cow, this is just getting better and better.
Who is going to play Jane?
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Will Dakota Fanning play a pint-sized vampire in the "Twilight" sequel, “New Moon?” She’s crossing her fingers.
“I think it’s too soon to tell if I’ll for sure be doing it, but it’s so great,” she told Access Hollywood on Saturday at the junket for her latest film, “Push.” “I’m a really big fan of that series and the first film and all the actors in it, so it would be wonderful.”
E! Online's Marc Malkin reported on Thursday that Dakota was currently negotiating for the role of Jane, a member of the deadly Volturi vampires from Italy, where much of “New Moon” takes place.
Following Malkin’s report, a rep for Summit Entertainment confirmed to Access there had been talks with the actress.
“We are considering all actors that have the unique requirements for the look of Jane — Dakota being one of them,” a rep for Summit told Access.
If she does get the part, Dakota said she won’t have to spend too much time in the makeup chair.
“I don’t think they’ll have to put a lot of makeup on me,” she joked. “I’m pretty white already.”
And the 14-year-old actress added that doing the film would give her a boost with her “Twilighter” pals.
“Pretty much all my friends are pretty big fans, so it would be great,” she said.

I am excited for them to finally be picking people. I hope that the new director does shoot there. That would be dumb if they use scenes from before. It better be better! keep the updates coming!
