Since acquiring Alec and Jane, the Volturi have seldom needed to fight - their victims are simply slaughtered.

Jane’s experience with the pain of burning alive shaped her into a potent weapon – she developed the ability to inflict immense pain on others with only a look.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:Aro is the leader of the Volturi. The sophisticated, urbane vampire’s goal is to recruit Edward and Alice to the Volturi. He refuses Edward’s request to be killed because of this. He lets them leave with Bella so as to not become their enemy (which would prevent his recruiting) and because he sees potential in Bella should she join the vampire world. He makes Edward and Alice promise to change Bella soon.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:Marcus is the most detached of the Volturi leaders. The loss of his mate has essentially turned him into a zombie over the centuries. He is surprised by the intensity of Bella and Edward’s relationship.
VOLTURI
1) The Volturi include: Aro, Caius, and Marcus as the leaders, and then Jane, Alec, Demetri, Felix, Heidi, and several other unnamed members of the guard.
2) The Volturi are similar to a ruling body, and protect the secret of vampires by wiping out any “problems” as vampire law defines.
3) The Volturi live in an ancient Tuscan city called “Volterra”.
4) Aro and Jane’s powers do not work on Bella.
Director Chris Weitz on the Volturi –“No matter how strange one of the characters is in a work of fantasy, I think you have to approach them as people and then so you start to think, ‘They’ve been around for 2,000 years. How would they interact with one another?’ The conclusion was that after 2,000 years you’d probably be more than mildly insane. No matter how cultured or gracious you appear on the surface. And I think that’s what Michael Sheen managed to portray as Aro, the head of the Volturi — on the surface he’s terribly gracious, warm, a wonderful host and at the same time he’s lethal and frightening. It’s also what Dakota Fanning conveys as Jane. She’s innocent looking in appearance but she’s absolutely deadly. The first thing I wanted to do was put them in a setting that wasn’t Dracula’s castle. There have been so many vampire movies and werewolf movies and horror movies where everything has been dark and dreary. Instead, their headquarters is surprisingly light and crisp. And the characters that they play have a kind of a tactile reality to them in spite of how bizarre their situation is really. The whole point is not to leave Forks, Washington where everything has really been quite realistic and then suddenly go to a location that completely throws you out of the movie. And the set although it’s huge and grand and magnificent actually feels like a real place.”

The first single has officially been confirmed for the New Moon Soundtrack! Death Cab for Cutie has written an exclusive song for the movie entitled ‘Meet Me On the Equinox.’ Below is a statement from the band about the song:
“We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. Remeber that filming for Eclipse started on August 17th. Photos are coming in as well as new characters.
New cast memeber: Sabrina Frank (Vera)
Who is Vera? I had a lapse in my memory as well. For those who don’t remember, Vera was Rosalie’s best friend when she was human. Rosalie describes Vera as the first person she was ever truly jealous of because of her marriage and child. Read a direct quote from Eclipse in which Rosalie describes Vera:
“My very closest friend was a girl named Vera. She married young, just seventeen. She married a man my parents would never have considered for me — a carpenter. A year later she had a son, a beautiful little boy with dimples and curly black hair. It was the first time I’d ever felt truly jealous of anyone else in my entire life.”
