Twilight News
Video Business.com is reporting that Summit has sold 5.6 million units of ‘Twilight’, including Blu-ray, in the first nine days:
MARCH 30 Summit Home Entertainment’s Twilight sold 5.2 million DVD and Blu-ray Disc units in its first week on shelves to become the top seller of the year so far.
Summit said consumers purchased 5.2 million copies of the modern vampire tale in the U.S. during in the first week following the title’s midnight release on Saturday, March 21. Including last weekend, the title’s nine-day take was 5.6 million units, according to Summit.
A common yardstick used by studios is 20,000 units in first-week sales per $1 million at the box office, which would put the expectation for Twilight, with a $191 million box-office take, at 3.8 million units sold in its first week. At 5.2 million units, Twilight performed more like a $260 million theatrical release.
Summit’s home entertainment chief, Steve Nickerson, attributed the title’s success in large part to its Saturday release, noting that many retailers would not have staged midnight parties for a standard Tuesday release. “These [fan] girls would rather have a community event,” said Nickerson. “All we did was help facilitate what the fans would want.”
The title sold less than 5% of its units on Blu-ray, Summit said, pointing to the movie’s overwhelming appeal to females. The majority of the audience for Blu-ray is still male. However, the Blu-ray version of Twilight was only available at Target and Best Buy.
About 5,800 stores nationwide—spanning Blockbuster, Borders, Hot Topic, F.Y.E., Hastings Entertainment and Wal-Mart—stayed open past midnight on Saturday, March 21, to sell Twilight as soon as it became available.
Cast members made appearances at some stores, with 2,500 fans showing up in Salt Lake City to see Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) at a Wal-Mart; 2,000 people in Los Angeles to see Ashley Greene (Alice) at Hot Topic; and more than 1,000 fans in Dallas for director Catherine Hardwicke at Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart set a companywide single-day DVD sales record, with some of its stores’ release parties attracting more than 1,000 Twilight fans, according to a spokeswoman. The mass merchant also said the $191 million U.S. box-office hit represented its largest consumer pre-order ever. Wal-Mart is the exclusive sell-through retailer for the single-DVD, which it priced at $17. The retailer staged midnight events in about 2,400 stores, with an exclusive fan greeting filmed on the set of Twilight’s sequel, New Moon, broadcast exclusively through its in-store TV network.
Summit said Twilight’s 3.1 million-unit first-day sales ranked it among the Top 5 best first-day DVD releases over the past two years, along with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End; Warner Home Video’s The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; and Paramount Home Entertainment’s Transformers. Each of those titles had box-office grosses 50% to almost 200% more than Twilight.

New Moon News
The BBC is reporting to the world that one of the three Volturi has been cast. According to the BBC Jamie Campbell-Bower has been cast in the role of Caius.
The 20-year-old, who has appeared in RockNRolla and Sweeney Todd, told the BBC news website that taking part in the vampire series was “very exciting”.
“You’re the first people I’ve told” he said. “Shooting has already started, and I’m going over in June.”
The film, due for release in November, is the second adaptation from author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series.
The role of Caius is key to the plot of New Moon. He forms part of the triumvirate leading the Italian based coven of vampires called the Volturi.
The second book in the series see the gang become a threat to lovers Bella and Edward.
Rumours ‘false’
Campbell-Bower confessed he was not previously aware of the character: “I hadn’t read the books before. But it’s a great thing to be a part of, and it did very well last year.”
Film-maker Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass) has taken over directing duties from Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke for the second film.
Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will repeat their roles Casting news for New Moon has been revealed gradually, with 15-year-old Dakota Fanning now confirmed to take part the part of Jane, a member of the Volturi gang with psychic abilities.
Five American Indian actors will make their film acting debuts as members of a wolf pack which features heavily in New Moon.
Casting for other roles is being hotly debated on fan websites.
Campbell-Bower teased: “I do know who else will be in it - but I can’t tell you, unfortunately.
“But go online and have a look at the rumours,” he said, then added: “They’re all false. You’re putting me in a terrible situation.”
‘Adulation’
The up-and-coming star will be acting alongside fellow Brit Robert Pattinson, who returns as the hero, teenage vampire Edward Cullen. Kristen Stewart reprises her role as Edward’s human girlfriend, Bella Swan.
The quartet of books by Stephenie Meyer is a best-seller worldwide.
The first film adaptation, Twilight, topped the US box office, making more money than industry insiders had predicted.
Global receipts for the film currently stand at $376m (£265m).
Hundreds of fans turned out for the London premiere in Leicester Square last year, while Pattinson has become a heartthrob overnight.
Campbell-Bower said: “I doubt I’ll get the same sort of adulation as Robert - but it’s always nice when people recognise you for your work.”
The actor also plays alongside Sir Ian McKellan and Jim Caviezel in the remake of cult series The Prisoner which is due to screen on American television this year.

Sneak Peek of New Moon Poster, I was hoping for a little more.
Flittering Images of Edward in New Moon
The Examiner looks at the ways that Edward Cullen could get a little more time on screen:
Since the recent news about the “flittering images” of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen we Twilight fans might expect to see in New Moon, questions have been abounding as to how Edward Cullen’s character can come across the screen throughout the film in these images and yet the film (directed by Chris Weitz and starring Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner) might still remain faithful to Stephenie Meyer’s wonderful book.
As we have seen, fans have laid out a number of expectations for New Moon’s scenes that would qualify it as a true book-to-film presentation of Meyer’s best-selling and much-adored work - see here. During that conversation, there was much back and forth as to whether Pattinson’s character ,Edward Cullen, should have more scenes throughout the book. Those opposed to the idea say that the appeal of New Moon the book owes in large part to its crushing deprivation of Edward from Bella (and thus, the audience)’s life, and the derision that grows between Jacob Black and Edward as a consequence - not to mention, the glorious reconciliation that we get to see in the ending. Proponents of Edward’s being a bigger part of the film, basically, say that book essence aside, Edward Cullen is a character that they want to see more of, no matter the cost.
The news about Edward’s appearance throughout the film as a “flittering image,” however, might promise a happy compromise between the competing interests of these fans.

Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree. Twilight DVD sales - OVER 3 MILLION the first day!!
No surprises here: Teen girls lined up en masse to take Robert Pattinson home with them when the Twilight DVD went on sale Saturday, complete with midnight release parties. The romantic vampire sensation, which has grossed $380 million in theaters since its November release, sold more than 3 million copies in its first day on the shelves, studio Summit Entertainment says. That puts it in the top five best first-day DVD releases in the last two years, among the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, The Dark Night, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers.

How Bella and Edward got their look
Dressing Bella
''I wanted to dress Bella (Kristen Stewart) apart from the Forks kids because she arrives there as an outsider [from Arizona],'' explains Twilight's costume designer, Wendy Chuck. ''She's in lots of warm earth tones, with some Southwestern elements thrown in.'' Being the new girl in school wasn't the only obstacle Bella faced: ''Having come from a warm, sunny climate to the rainy gloom of Forks, we wanted to make her unprepared for the cold and the rain.'' Which is why, Chuck explains, we don't see Bella in a raincoat until later on in the tale.
Dressing Edward
In order to dress Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in a manner befitting the teen idol that author Stephenie Meyer envisioned, Chuck says she turned to the royals of the early 19th century: ''His name personifies his look, which to me was English Edwardian. He's the embodiment of an Edwardian gentleman — very proper, has manners, and is very charming.'' The vampire's clothes weren't all inspired by history, though. As Chuck points out, ''He wears a pair of shoes that are lace-up and of the early 1900s, but then he also wears more current sporty clothes.''
Edward's Pea Coat
''Everybody wants to know where his pea coat came from!'' exclaims the costumer. Unfortunately, it is a one-of-a-kind piece (er, sort of: three to four were made for filming purposes) which Chuck herself crafted after not being able to find the perfect one. ''We needed the right fit, [and] I couldn't find anything in the right shade of gray,'' she recalls. ''Catherine [Hardwicke, the director] is really big on back story for her characters and anything that can help that, even if it's in a texture or color of clothes.'' After considering ''probably 20 swatches,'' Chuck went with one from Mood Fabrics and based her final design on a combination of other styles of pea coats. In the end, his turned out as ''a classic shape with a modern twist.''
Bella's Brown Hoodie
During the pivotal parking lot scene, Bella wears a hoodie by Nordstrom store brand Rubbish and mittens by Ruth Cross — a conscious choice by Chuck to not use designer brands: ''My look is always character-based and not fashion-based. It's really easy to get over-stylish, and I felt that Bella in particular had to be anchored in the real world.''
Bella's Cream Thermal
Filming in Washington during the winter months meant dealing with icy temperatures, so nestled under Bella's brown hoodie were lots of layers, including this long-sleeved cream top. The thermal, by Curious Gypsy, had thumbholes on the sleeve, making it ''a bit unusual and different,'' notes Chuck.
Bella's Blue Jacket
The cargo jacket by Jack BB Dakota wasn't actually supposed to appear in Twilight. ''I was planning to use the brown hoodie for that sequence, but the director of photography hated the fact that her hair and the jacket were both brown and felt she got lost in it,'' says Chuck, who then made a last-minute run to outlet store Nordstrom Rack to hunt for a replacement. ''I literally brought that blue one on set just before they rolled cameras. Then Catherine said, 'Wendy saved the day!' That made me a hero.'' Good news for fans: Because of its massive popularity, the newly dubbed ''Twilight'' jacket will be reissued in July for $84. Check back with BB Dakota for store listings.
Bella's Accessories
As Bella's feelings for Edward change, careful viewers may notice a shift in her wardrobe, as well: ''Her sense of style becomes less tomboy and more feminine,'' Chuck says. ''So rather than go wildly feminine because she was always wearing pants, that really left me to find some pieces that had a little feminine touch.'' (This particular embroidered top is by Lucky Brand.) Also adding to the girly quotient were Bella's accessories: a moonstone ring (which, as Chuck recalls, was made by the props department), a headband (another custom creation), and a delicate turquoise bracelet, which was ''something that we were to think her mom gave her,'' adds the costumer who found the original cuff in L.A. and had six copies made to fit Stewart's tiny wrist.
Dressing the Cullen Family
Chuck had to pay special attention when mapping out clothes for the blood-sucking Cullen brood. ''I didn't want to go too traditional black... I wanted them to feel cold and frozen.'' So she outfitted the family in grays, whites, and blues, while being careful to not go too over-the-top. ''The Cullens have wildly expensive taste and money. At the same time, I had to anchor them in the practical world of going to school and being able to blend with everyone else.''
More on the Cullen.....and that crest
Along with a blazer from GUESS, Rosalie (Nikki Reed, left) wears a scarf (which Chuck remembers as Forever 21) and a Cullen crest necklace made by the props department. ''When I first met Catherine, I presented the idea that the Cullens should have a crest that they would wear in different ways,'' the costumer says. ''It's a very old-world thing to do.'' Alice (Ashley Greene), who's also sporting a smaller version of the family crest around her neck, wears a lace cardigan from Anthropologie. ''She's kooky and very artistic, so it was important to throw texture and layers on her, and for her to wear things in unusual ways.''
Bella's Prom Dress
Knowing all eyes would be on Bella's prom look, Chuck had to choose carefully. The bolero was a vintage piece that she cut, restyled, and re-sequined. The dress was a little more serendipitous: ''It was miracle find!'' exclaims Chuck, who picked up the Max and Cleo silk dress at discount store Ross — and for $20. (Fun fact: Chuck also purchased the only other one left in the store so she could use the extra material to create one long dress. But, in the end, she left the dress as-is, using the second for a photo double.) ''I always say I channel clothes, I don't necessarily design them — it's divine sometimes the way it happens!''

How to prep for a midnight release
As promised, here are a few more helpful hints on keeping safe while attending a Twilight Series midnight release.
#1 - Safety in numbers
The more the merrier. Waiting in line can be very tiring, so the more people there to talk to and save spots the better. Also there is more back up if a dispute should arise. :)
#2 - Pre-Order/Reserve your copy
There is nothing worse than standing in line and waiting for several hours to have the item you want sell out. Take the time to research what you need to do to ensure the item you are waiting for is there.
#3 - Be prepared
Nothing like going camping and forgetting your sleeping bag. If you are going to be staying out all night, make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable. Chair, blanket, food etc. This will make it much more enjoyable for everyone. Don't forget to check the local weather forecast and plan accordingly. If you are staying out all day, make sure you bring plenty of sun screen and water. No one wants to have heat stroke before the big event.
#4 Scout our your location
Make the time to drive to the location where the event is happening. See how much room in there. Locate restrooms and other areas you can use during the wait. This could give you the extra edge you need to be in the front of the line.
#5 - Find a babysitter and inform the spouse, boyfriend etc.
There are not many times I ask my husband to watch the kids and go off for hours at a time, but Twilight is different. Prep the hubby, give him as much time as possible before the event so they are fully aware they will have the kids. If you don't have a husband or schedules conflict. Spend the extra money and get a babysitter. You will be glad you did.
Those are the most important tips I can give you. Channy and I have stayed out all night waiting to get a ticket to see Stephenie Meyer. Channy and I have stayed in line all day waiting to see Stephenie Meyer. We have also waited in line to get a wristband for Breaking Dawn and then again to get the book. We have walked the walk and have nothing but wonderful memories because of it.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
